Arthur Goldstein (Piano)holds an MFA in composition from PSU has studied at Eastman School of Music and Berklee College of Music and teaches jazz history and music appreciation at PSU, is active as a solo recitalist, accompanist, and leader of his own jazz quartet
MacKinlay Himes (Guitar)holds a Bachelor of Art in Music from Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute, has completed graduate studies at Berklee College of Music, and has completed Masters of Music in Composition at PSU; he performs regularly throughout the region and teaches a variety of guitar styles
Richard Wylie (Guitar)studied at Eastman School of Music, receiving a Bachelors degree in Classical Guitar from Ithaca College. Having performed extensively for the past 25 years in New York, Los Angles, and Washington, DC, Mr. Wylie has taught a variety of guitar styles, including classical, at The Music Academy for the past ten years
Wendy Levin (Voice, Piano)holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Cleveland Institute and Voice Therapy Certification from Boston University. Ms. Levin has experience in Choral Conducting at Carnegie Hall and is also Organist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lewistown, PA
Lisa Riddering (Double Bass)holds a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and is pursuing a Masters in Music (2008) in Double Bass Performance; she is a member of the Penn State Baroque Ensemble
Brandy Davis (Saxophone, Clarinet, Trumpet)holds a Bachelors in Music Education from PSU School of Music and performs with Altoona and Nittany Valley Symphony Orchestras and with Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra
Tom Connolly (Drums, Percussion)holds a Bachelors degree from Penn State University, has studied with prominent drummers and percussionists and has performed in Connecticut, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and State College.
For Young Musicians July 2 - 6
Music History- Learn about various instruments, composers, and genres of music throughout different time periods; each session will focus on a different historical time period, and everyone will participate in games and activities that involve listening, identifying, and matching
Rhythm through Dance- Listen and learn about characteristic rhythms in a variety of styles of music and perform rhythms through motion (clapping, tapping, and stomping). Rhythm will also be taught through both free-form and choreographed dancing. Each session will focus on music from a different world region.
Art- Students will explore music through general, participatory art projects
Vocalization and Movement- Learn basic vocalization (singing) techniques and to incorporate movement for a better understanding of musical concepts, rhythm, and dramatic content of music
PRIVATE LESSONS AVAILABLE IN: PIANO, VOICE, WINDS, GUITAR, AND BRASS
Students may enroll in full or half session (morning or afternoon), plus individual lessons; students participating in Chamber Music are encouraged to enroll in private lessons Chamber Music Students will be placed in one or more Chamber Music classes according to age and skill level

During a career than spans 35 years of teaching, Ms. Bernstein has developed her own system of training from young beginners through advanced intermediate piano students

The Baroque Keyboard-Exploring aspects of the Baroque keyboard as both solo and accompaniment instrument; Continuo and solo class and opportunities to explore the keyboard as an ensemble instrument and to discuss improvisation
Baroque DanceIntro to Gavotte, Minuet, and basic Baroque dance forms. Learn to dance and to understand the context and historical background of the dances
Understanding Baroque Music- Explore historical and technical aspects of Baroque style. Explore concepts of “voice” and music rhetoric and how is applied to performance; demonstrations on both keyboard and string instruments
Baroque Voice- Explore performance aspects of Baroque vocal music by listening to recordings and discussing aesthetic and technical ideals of the day. Form, style, and improvisation may be addressed; amply opportunities to perform.
Aspects of Virtuosity in the Baroque Concerto- Open workshop will discuss the historical and aesthetic context of the concerto. Students should have one movement of a Baroque Concerto prepared and memorized.
