Introduction to Computer Based Sound Recording

Instructor: Bob Klotz

Provides an introduction to modern computer- based sound recording using Digidesign's Pro Tools digital audio workstation (DAW) as the platform. Compatible with both Windows and Macintosh computers, Pro Tools is the most widely used DAW, with emphasis on real-world applications. Individual sessions with the instructor are available to students taking the course; lab may also be reserved for individual use. Computer experience is a highly recommended pre-requisite. Macintosh familiarity is a plus, but is not required.

Beginner Guitar for Youth

Learn guitar basics: open chords and simple melodies, rhythms, pulse, strumming, staff reading, open position, tab reading, advanced chord knowledge.

Adult Theory II

8 weeks / Tuition: $200

This course will focus on the basics of four-part writing, including chords of the seventh. There will be a continuation on ear-training activities, including melodic dictation. We will study chromatic harmony and introduce some twentieth century practice, including early twelve-tone music and jazz. One student project will be submitted.

Introduction to Songwriting

Instructor: MacKinlay Himes
8 weeks / Tuition: $200
Thursday, 4:30-5:30pm

Students will learn the basics of song writing, including the art of melody writing and its relationship to lyrics. Music reading and theory competency required; may be waived at discretion of the instructor. Course centers on the submission of student work.

Group Piano for Adults

Instructor: Carol Pharo
16 weeks / Tuition: $350
Monday, 7:00-8:00pm

Piano basics, with no prior experience necessary. This course will provide a solid foundation in piano skills and includes notation, sight-reading skills, technique, scales, and triads. The books include CDs for practice at home and for promoting that great feeling that comes from "playing with a band."

It's Never Too Late To Learn To Sing

Instructor: Wendy Levin

Enjoy the music of Cole Porter, Gershwin, Kern, and more. Healthy singing instruction in a group setting.

GROUP LESSONS FOR CHILDREN


Music Readiness

Instructor: Carol Pharo
16 weeks / Tuition: $130
Tuesday, 3:00-3:45pm

Group experience for young children who are about to begin music lessons for the first time. Children with caregivers will sing, clap, and dance to a wide variety of music, including Suzuki Book One repertoire. Concepts of rhythm, melody, phrasing, and weight changes necessary for success in the early Suzuki repertoire will be emphasized.

Musical Theatre for Children

(grades 1-5)
Instructor: Carol Pharo
16 weeks / Tuition: $200
Tuesday, 3:45-4:45pm

This course emphasizes proper vocal development for the elementary-aged child and includes vocal exercise, ear training, notation fundamentals, part-singing,movement skills, and performance/presentation coaching. Repertoire consists of songs from 20th and 21st centuries, including Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein and ballads from the Big Band Era.Many songs will be choreographed.

The Music Academy's Children's Choir

(grades 1-5)
Instructor: Carol Pharo
16 weeks / Tuition: $200
Monday, 5:00-6:00pm

Proper vocal development for the elementary- aged child is emphasized in this course; vocal exercises, ear-training, notation fundamentals, part-singing, and performance/ presentation coaching are included. Repertoire is selected from 1000 years of beautiful (mostly) Western music and will include some choreography.



A Two-Payment Option is available: tuition plus $15 divided in half.
