Mark O'Connor Violin Method

connor

Mark O'Connor, the world-renowned fiddler, composer, and promoter of American musical traditions, has developed a new violin methodology that music educators are hailing as the first legitimate American alternative to the popular Suzuki method of instruction. The Music Academy is delighted to be the first in the region to offer instruction in Books One and Two of the O'Connor Violin Method.

"The O'Connor Violin Method...offers a blend of folk, jazz, country, classical -- even rock and roll -- and is designed to guide students through the development of musical techniques necessary to becoming a proficient, well-rounded musician. "The collection includes some of the most endearing melodies in American music as well as some of the great folk fiddle tunes that have endured our 400 year-old history of violin-playing. A specific feature of the Method is the inclusion of musical literature that represents all of the Americas--Mexico, Canada, and every region of the United States -- and all musical styles -- classical, folk, Latin, jazz, rock and ragtime. Material is both instructive and artistically enriching, and will help create the future classical violinist, folk fiddler, jazz musician...or all three. The Method takes into consideration that, even at the beginning levels, learning music possessing a timeless quality is a healthy vehicle for engendering a lifelong love of music-making."
