Piano Camp for Middle School Students:
"I Play Classical Music! (But What Does That Mean?)"

Instructors: Lauren Kooistra and Kristen Topham
Ages: Students entering 4th - 8th Grades
Prior Piano Experience: 2 years
Dates:  June 19 - 23
Times: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
and Friday Recital at 1:30 PM
Tuition: $250
Minimum / Maximum Number of Students: 8 / 12

This camp will focus on understanding the culture, forms, and musical characteristics of the Classical period. By the end of the week each student will have played and danced a Minuet, written a group composition in sonata form, discovered the layout of a Rondo, and learned about the lives of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, the pianoforte, and the society, art and architecture of the time. Students should bring a solo piece to be worked on throughout the week, and will be placed in duet or trio combinations for performance at the Friday recital.


Piano Camp for Elementary Students:Why Do Composers Compose?

Instructors: Lauren Kooistra 
and Kristen Topham
Ages: Students entering 1st - 3rd Grades
Prior Experience: At least 6 months of piano
Dates:  June 19 - 23
Times: Monday - Thursday, 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM
and Friday Recital at 1:30 PM
Tuition: $150
Minimum / Maximum Number of Students:  6 / 8

This camp will focus on the variety of inspirations composers draw from when composing music. Each day will explore a different topic (including nature, artwork, and story-telling) in fun and interactive ways. The students will compose their own music for piano based on the topics explored, while discovering the technical and expressive elements of the piano. Students should bring a solo piece to be worked on throughout the week, and will be placed in duo or trio combinations for performance at the Friday recital.



Electronic Music Production 

Instructor: Jay Tyler Nelson
Ages: 12-18
Minimum Requirements: All musical skill levels welcome/ basic understanding of computer/tablet usage is required.

Times:
Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Minimum / Maximum Number of Students: 8 / 20


Aspiring electronic music makers will learn the basics of songwriting, arranging, and orchestration and create their own tracks, beats, and samples. During the week-long workshop, students will collaborate, tinker, and explore, using provided digital tools and their own personal electronic devices. At the end of the week, students will demonstrate their new tracks and a CD of everyone's work will be sent out.  

What to Bring: A Laptop (PC or Apple), tablet, or smartphone is helpful, but not required. A pair of headphones.
